Frequently Asked Questions

What size duffle bag do I need for a weekend trip?

For two or three nights, 40L to 50L is the sweet spot. Our 50L Hybrid Sack holds a change of clothes per day, boots, a toiletry kit and a laptop with room to spare. If you're packing bulky gear, cold-weather layers or shared kit for more than one person, size up to the 57.5L Waxed Duffle.

Is a 50L duffle bag carry-on size?

Not usually. Most US airlines cap carry-on at roughly 22 x 14 x 9 inches, which works out around 45L. A 50L duffle will fit in the overhead on some aircraft when it isn't packed full, but plan on checking it if you've loaded it out. The 57.5L is a checked bag.

What's the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?

Water-resistant fabric sheds a light shower and then soaks through. Waterproof means the material and the coating hold water out under sustained exposure. Our XL Waxed Duffle is waterproof, so gear stays dry in the bed of a truck, on a boat deck or in a downpour.

How do you care for a waxed canvas duffle bag?

Brush off dirt dry, then spot clean with cold water and a stiff brush. No machine washing, no detergent, no hot water, all three strip the wax. Re-wax once a year with a standard canvas wax bar if the finish starts to look dry or the fabric stops beading.

Can you wear a duffle bag as a backpack?

The 50L Hybrid Sack can. It converts between duffle handles and padded backpack straps, which is what makes it work for a gym bag on the walk in and a travel bag on the way out. The 57.5L Waxed Duffle is duffle carry only.

Do these bags take MOLLE attachments?

Yes. Both duffles are MOLLE compatible and take any of our pouches, admin pouches and the sunglasses carrier, so you can build the bag out how you want it.
